2013 Oscars Predictions

Snub This

In the midst of Awards Season, it's important to respect the opinions set forth by those endowed with the task of selecting such entries to win these things.  The Grammys this year did a great job with their selections. The Oscars on the other hand...well let's see...

First complaint: NO LEO?!?!?! Are you KIDDING ME?!?! I know he's had more captivating performances, but Calvin Candie was awesome!

Second complaint: NO NOLAN?!?!? I'm not saying it would win, and again I'm not saying it was his best, but The Dark Knight Rises at least deserved a Best Cinematography nod or SOMETHING!

Third complaint:...there's seriously a lot of complaints, but...NO LEO?!?!?

Ok ok, here's who WILL win...

BEST PICTURE
Beasts Of The Southern Wild
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty
Lincoln
Les Misérables
Life Of Pi
Amour
Django Unchained
Argo

Winner: Amour. Before you start yelling about how good your selection is, understand my theory. Lincoln is coming in with a lot of cred (and noms) BUT as of late, the lead dog doesn't win. Last year, War Horse and The Help were frontrunners ultimately losing out to The Artist. Two years ago, Avatar, which everyone thought was locked in, lost to the surprising Hurt Locker. On that note, Zero Dark Thirty was good, but not good enough this year, Argo is tremendous, but Affleck not getting the Best Director nod sends a message here, and Amour is a surprisingly awesome film. Dont' be mad cause you've not seen it, check it out and you'll learn why.

BEST ACTOR
Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln
Denzel Washington - Flight
Hugh Jackman - Les Misérables
Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
Joaquin Pheonix - The Master

Winner: Daniel Day-Lewis. This one IS a no-brainer. Much like how Ray wouldn't have been the movie it was were it not for the remarkable performance by Jamie Foxx, Lincoln wouldn't have been Lincoln if it weren't for this gem. He'll get his with this award.

BEST ACTRESS
Naomi Watts - The Impossible
Jessica Chastain - Zero Dark Thirty
Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook
Emmanuelle Riva - Amour
Quvenzhané Wallis - Beasts Of The Southern Wild

Winner: Jennifer Lawrence. These were all amazing performances, however, I felt Jessica Chastain didn't carry her part as well as Jennifer Lawrence did hers.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Christoph Waltz - Django Unchained
Phillip Seymor Hoffman - The Master
Robert DeNiro - Silver Linings Playbook
Alan Arkin - Argo
Tommy Lee Jones - Lincoln

Winner: Alan Arkin. Ohhh I wanted to go with Christoph Waltz here, that guys awesome!! But Arkin delivered a performance I hadn't seen out of him. It was awesome, it outshone Affleck in his own movie. That deserves this title.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Sally Field - Lincoln
Anne Hathaway - Les Misérables
Jackie Weaver - Silver Linings Playbook
Hellen Hunt - The Sessions
Amy Adams - The Master

Winner: Anne Hathaway. I'm not comfortable with this one, but I'll stand by it. She did great, much like everyone else in that film, it was tremendous. She acted, she sang, she died (so did everyone in that movie). Oscar.

BEST ANIMATED FILM
Frankenweenie
The Pirates
Wreck-It Ralph
Paranorman
Brave

Winner: Brave. Because Pixar.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG
"Before My Time" - Chasing Ice
"Pi's Lullaby" - Life Of Pi
"Suddenly" - Les Misérables
"Everybody Needs A Best Friend" - Ted
"Skyfall" - Skyfall

Winner: Skyfall. It was everything a Bond song should be, in one of the greatest Bond movies of all time. Adele was incredible and it will win. Sidenote, Ted was nominated for this? Let this stand as the first time ever Seth MacFarlane has had his name next to 'original'.

BEST DOCUMENTARY
5 Broken Cameras
The Gatekeepers
How To Survive A Plague
The Invisible War
Searching For Sugar Man

Winner: The Invisible War. It was the only one I saw...

BEST DIRECTOR
David O. Russell - Silver Linings Playbook
Ang Lee - Life Of Pi
Steven Spielberg - Lincoln
Michael Haneke - Amour
Benh Zeitlin - Beasts Of The Southern Wild

Winner: Michael Haneke. One can't win Best Picture without Best Director (right, Affleck?). I gotta stick by my pic, so this is what I got!

So there's my pics. Who knows what will happen, that's half of what makes this whole process fun!
