Springfield Police Pledge To Help Sexual Assault Victims

Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams is trying to reassure the community today after a CNN investigation found the department botched past sexual assault investigations, pressuring victims to cooperate and throwing away rape kits when they didn’t.

Chief Williams issued a video statement.

In it, he apologized for the department’s past mistakes.

Williams says the department has made major changes since 2014.

He’s encouraging victims to come forward, saying the department is committed to helping victims of sexual assault.

On Thursday, Williams issued a statement saying the CNN story was not completely accurate.
