Stone County Sheriff Remembers Duck Boat Tragedy One Year Ago Today

Friday marks the one year anniversary when the duck boat sank and killed 17 people on Table Rock Lake.

One of those, who arrived on scene, was Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader who says “throughout his career he received training on mass casualties and major incident command but until you actually have it right in front of you and you have to handle that, you don’t realize all that goes into it.”

Rader says the chaos he remembers was determining who was a hero and who was a victim when he arrived at the Branson Belle that nght.

Rader also says his greatest memory was “that all emergency responders from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Taney County Sheriff’s Office, Branson P.D., Western Taney Fire, Southern Stone County Fire, and the Highway Patrol’s marine division, everybody working together immediately.”
