Greene County Collector Reminds Public Taxes Due by 31st

The Greene County Collector wants to remind folks that Personal Property and Real Estate Taxes are due by December 31st.

Collector Leah Betts says that if you have not yet received your statement, you need to come into the courthouse or call within the next 5 days.

She says there are several common reasons people forget to pay:

  1.  “Real estate:  Someone buys a house in October and due to the timing the old owner gets the bill and new owner does not.  The new owner doesn’t realize it until much later and then they owe late fees.  I hate late payment fees and I don’t want anyone to have to pay.  And I can’t waive the late payment fees.
  2.  Personal property:  People forget to assess and then later have to pay late payment fees.  Again, I hate this.
  3.  OR for whatever reason mail gets lost and folks don’t get their statement but don’t realize it until after December 31st, and they have to pay late fees. “

Betts urges people to come to the collector’s office or call 417-868-4036 to avoid late payment fees.
