NWS Ups Ice Forecast, Winter Weather Advisory Expanded

Getting to work or school could be a real mess Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says freezing rain is expected to hit the Springfield area around 5 or 6 a.m. and last until around noon.

Up to two tenths of an inch of ice is possible.

Meteorologist Kyle Perez some places could get up to a quarter of an inch of ice.

The NWS forecast originally called for just a tenth of an inch of ice.

Perez says roads and bridges could be slick in the morning.

It’ll be all rain by the time afternoon drive starts, unless you’re driving toward Rolla.

A Winter Weather Advisory in effect for the entire KTTS listening area from 9 p.m. Thursday night until 6 p.m. Friday night.

Original Story:

Much of southwest Missouri is under a winter weather advisory starting at 9 p.m. Thursday and going through noon on Friday.

Counties along the Missouri-Arkansas border are not included in the advisory.

The National Weather Service says low amounts of a wintry mix will be possible.

Freezing rain accumulations up to one tenth of an inch are expected, with some light amounts of snow north of Highway 54.

Forecasters say freezing rain may lead to slick roads for the Friday morning commute.

The freezing rain is expected to change over to all rain after noon.

A flood watch is in effect for much of the Ozarks starting Friday morning and running through Friday night.

The weather service says an inch to an inch and a half of rain is possible in southwest Missouri, which could lead to widespread flooding as soil conditions are saturated from last weekend’s heavy rains.
