Oak Hill Academy Wins Bass Pro Tournament Of Champions

Oak Hill Academy has won its fourth Bass Pro Tournament of Champions, defeating Paul VI Catholic High 72-57 Saturday night in front of 9,722 fans at JQH Arena.

The three day tournament has drawn 22,553 fans to The Q.

The Warriors do it again, staying unbeaten in the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions, winning the title game in all four years they’ve played in the tournament.

Paul VI had the early momentum, jumping out to a 15-12 lead with 1:06 left in the first quarter.

Cam Thomas hit a three pointer with 4:14 left in the second quarter, giving the Warriors a 27-24 advantage and starting a 10-2 run that saw Oak Hill Academy go up 37-29 at halftime.

The Warriors extended the lead to as many as 16 points in the third quarter and held a double digit lead for most of the final period.

St. Louis Vashon 62, Booker T. Washington (Tulsa, OK) 51

The Wolverines fell behind by eight points early, but came back to take home the third place trophy.

Nicolas Kern’s 20 points led the way for Vashon, with Cam’ron Fletcher adding 14 points and 15 rebounds.

The Wolverines, who held the Hornets to 38% shooting from the field, are now 10-4 this season.

Trey Phipps scored 20 for Booker T. Washington, who drops to 8-5.

Christ The King (Middle Village, NY) 71, Greenwood 67 (OT)

The Royals win an overtime thriller over the Blue Jays in the consolation final.

The game featured nine lead changes, including seven in the fourth quarter.

Christ the King went ahead 35-25 at halftime, but the Blue Jays came storming back to take a 46-44 lead after three quarters.

Nicholas Burri hit two free throws for the Blue Jays with 1:01 left in regulation to knot the contest 58-58.

Christ the King scored the first four points of the overtime frame before Aminu Mohammed drained two free throws with 2:27 left to pull the Blue Jays within two, 62-60.

The Royals’ Nicolas Molina answered with a three pointer to push the lead back to five, 65-60.

A pair of free throws by Grant Harper and a bucket by Kaden Stuckey got Greenwood back within a point, 65-64, with 1:12 left in the overtime.

But Molina hit another three pointer with 45 seconds left to push the lead back to four 68-64.

The Royals got a big layup from Sterling Jones with 17 seconds left, and by the time Harper hit a trey with 11 seconds left, Greenwood could only get within three.

Ryan Myers scored 23 points to lead Christ the King (5-7), with Jones adding 21.

Mohammed scored 38 points, and finished the tournament with 100 points, good for fourth all-time in a single TOC.

The 6-5 junior set the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions single game rebounding record with 23 boards, and his 52 rebounds in the tournament broke the record of 48 set by Malcolm Brogdon from Great Atlanta Christian in 2011.

Greensboro Day School (North Carolina) 67, Springfield Kickapoo 57

The Bengals never trailed in winning the 7th place game, jumping ahead 40-25 at halftime.

But the Chiefs made it close in the 3rd quarter, pulling within four of the lead, 46-42, on Anton Brookshire’s layup with 2:58 left.

Greensboro Day went on an 8-0 run late in the third period and early in the fourth, taking command 60-47 with 5:50 left in regulation.

Bryce Harris led four scorers in double figures for the Bengals, putting in 15 points and pulling down ten rebounds.

Christian Bailey scored 14, Cam Hayes 13, and Brock Williams had 12 points as the Bengals improve to 21-4 overall.

Brookshire’s 18 points led Kickapoo, who falls to 8-5 overall.

Cameron Liggins scored 14 points in a losing cause.
