Missouri State Lady Bears Win Big Over Bradley 90-56

Fans who expected a battle as the Missouri State Lady Bears hosted the Bradley Braves Friday night at JQH Arena instead got a blowout as MSU wins 90-56.

The victory moves 21st ranked Missouri State (17-3, 7-1) into a first place tie with the Braves (16-3, 7-1) atop the Missouri Valley Conference.

Bradley jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first minute and a half of the game, but junior Brice Calip got a quick bucket, Alexa Willard made two free throws, and Jasmine Franklin hit a bucket in the paint, giving MSU its first lead of the night, 6-4.

After Tatum Koenig hit a shot to knot the score 6-6, Calip drained a three pointer (one of nine MSU would hit in the game) to put the home team back in front.

The Lady Bears would never look back, dominating both offensively and defensively, pulling down 43 rebounds and committing only six turnovers in front of 4,044 fans, the second largest crowd of the season at The Q.

And everyone got in the act: Franklin and Calip scored 15 points each, with Willard adding 13 and Sydney Wilson ten.

Emily Gartner picked up six points and tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight.

Missouri State doubled up on Bradley at halftime, 40-20, then continued to dismantle the Braves in the second half, going up by as many as 42 points with just over five minutes left in the contest.

Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton was all smiles when she talked to the media following Friday’s big win:

The Lady Bears will play Illinois State Sunday afternoon at JQH Arena. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

Game Notes:

MSU is now 41-6 overall since December 20th, 2018, ranking seventh nationally in total wins since that date.

The Lady Bears have shot 40% or better (46% Friday night) 18 times and scored at least 68 points in 19 of 20 games this season.

Missouri State is off to its best start since the 2003-04 team opened 20-1 and best home start at 9-sine that same team finished 17-0 at Hammons Student Center.
