Branson Police Warn of Counterfeit Bill Circulation

The Branson area is seeing an abundance of counterfeit bills in almost every amount, including $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.

Business owners always have to be on the lookout for fake money, which is why the use of counterfeit pens has become common practice for local cashiers.

However, counterfeit detection pens do not work on all fake bills.

The police in Branson say there are other ways to see if payment is real, aside from detection pens.

When you hold a bill up to the light, a watermark should appear on the right front side. If it does not, chances are it’s counterfeit.

Another way to tell is by tilting the bill while observing the ink on the denomination number. A real bill will have color-shifting ink which turns from copper to green.

The public needs to be aware of the counterfeit circulation as well.

While a customer is not usually the creator of the counterfeit, cashier’s are commonly trained to report fake bills to keep them out of area cash registers.

Branson police say recent bills have been marked with red Chinese symbols and the phrase, “FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY.”

If you receive money in the area that you believe to be counterfeit, please call Branson police and file a report.
