Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding the Biggest Threats This Evening

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible through mid-afternoon Friday, then a possibility of severe storms with hail and 60 mph winds will be existent from late in the afternoon through the evening.

Flash flooding and heavy rain will be the biggest threats.

The National Weather Service says areas along and south of an Appleton City to West Plains line, including the Springfield metro area, are under a “marginal risk” for small hail and 60 mile per hour winds.

The highest severe threat (“slight risk”) is across far southwest Missouri along and south of a Joplin to Branson line.

Frequent lightning and heavy rainfall will accompany these storms, with some isolated flooding possible.
