Severe Thunderstorms Move Through Western Ozarks

Severe thunderstorms moved into the western Ozarks along the I-49 corridor west of Springfield just before 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and continued to track east, finally dissipating before reaching the Springfield metro area.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Barton, Newton, McDonald, Jasper, Barry, Lawrence and Dade Counties, with the main threats 60 mile per hour winds and quarter size hail.

The final severe thunderstorm warning expired at 10:15 p.m.

36 mile per hour winds were reported at the Monett Regional Airport.

A 62 mile per hour wind gust was reported at 9:15 p.m. at the Joplin Regional Airport.

Winds of 35 to 40 miles per hour were called in to the National Weather Service by the fire department in Seneca.

Wind gusts of 55 to 65 miles per hour were measured in the Joplin and Diamond areas.

We’ve had reports of quarter size hail five miles southwest of Iron Gates in Newton County just after 9:00 p.m. with other reports of dime to nickel size hail in the Joplin and Seneca areas.
