Dangerously Cold Temps Expected To Last Into Next Week

If you think it’s cold now, get ready — because it’s about to get even colder this weekend.

Meteorologist Kyle Perez with the National Weather Service says wind chills will make it feel like its -15.

“We are forecasting only highs in the single digits as we go into Sunday and Monday and even into Tuesday, with highs in the teens.  Overnight lows (will fall) below zero.”

At least two inches of snow is expected so far, with the chance for more especially southeast of Springfield.

Perez says because the roads are cold, any snow that does fall will make driving dangerous.

Perez says temperatures will be well below normal for this time of the year.

“With highs only in the teens and single digits, we’re generally running anywhere from 20 to 30 degree below normal through early next week.”

The area won’t start to come out of the deep freeze until sometime late next week when temperatures reach the freezing mark.

Very cold weather is expected to be prolonged into next week. Snow is expected Sunday into Monday. NWS Springfield weather story page: https://www.weather.gov/sgf/weatherstory
