Press Release

City of Springfield Public Works will be magically transformed into the “Holiday Works” department on Tuesday, Nov. 16 as they install the Park Central Square Christmas Tree beginning at 9 a.m.

The 25- to 30-foot-tall blue spruce was generously donated by a local Springfield family.

The tree will be cut down from a private residence by a team of arborist elves and ushered through the streets of Springfield, arriving at Park Central Square on a flatbed sleigh.

Various pieces of large equipment are used to hoist the tree in place, with Public Works street operations and public grounds crews teaming up to transport the tree and make final trimming adjustments to complete the installation.

The tree will be decked out and ceremoniously lighted as a part of the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Holiday Show hosted 6-9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 20 on Park Central Square.

The actual tree lighting is expected to occur just before 8 p.m.
