Severe Thunderstorm Watch Canceled

The National Weather Service has canceled a Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was in effect for most of the KTTS listening area until midnight.

Original Story

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until midnight for most of the KTTS listening area.

Strong winds were reported Wednesday afternoon, with gusts in the mid-50s reported in Springfield and Joplin.

Those winds are expected to drop to around 30 to 40 mph as storms move into the area this evening.

Severe storms will move into the Joplin area by 8 p.m. and the Springfield area between 9 and 11 p.m.

Even though the winds will drop some, the National Weather Service says there’s still the chance for some 50 mph gusts with the storms.

The storms could produce wind damage.

The tornado threat is considered low, but twisters cannot be ruled out.

The strongest storms will be in northern Missouri in an area where tornado warnings have been issued across parts of Nebraska and Northeast Kansas.

The storms could cause power outages.

Some were reported ahead of the front.

Winds will be out of the south making driving dangerous, especially if you’re driving on an east-to-west road.
