(KTTS News) — A major winter storm Tuesday and Wednesday could dump 5 to 9 inches of snow along and south of I-44.

Two to four inches could fall north of I-44.

Heavier amounts of up to 12 inches will be possible in some places.

The National Weather Service says snow will start falling this afternoon and last overnight.

The heaviest snowfall amounts will end by sunrise Wednesday, but snow flurries will continue through Wednesday night.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for areas along and south of I-44 until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

There’s a Winter Storm Warning for Laclede and Webster Counties until noon Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday for areas north of I-44.

The storm will making driving dangerous.

People are being encouraged to stay home Wednesday if possible.
