(KTTS News) — A man from Mansfield is charged with causing a crash that killed a Mansfield firefighter and injured a Mansfield police officer.
The Wright County Prosecutor charged 21-year-old Kody Skaggs with DWI resulting in death and DWI resulting in serious injuries.
Justin Sanders, who was a firefighter and Wright County EMT, was doing a ride along with Officer Michael Bryson Saturday morning.
The men were sitting in a pickup doing traffic surveillance on the side of the road at Business 60 and Highway 60 in Mansfield.
The Highway Patrol says Skaggs was driving a pickup when he crossed the center of the road and hit the pickup that Sanders and Bryson were in.
Sanders died at the scene.
Bryson went to the hospital and had to go through surgery.

(KTTS News) — The Mansfield Police Department says a firefighter was killed and a police officer was hurt after being hit by a drunk driver early Saturday morning.
The Highway Patrol says Officer Michael Bryson, 39, and Firefighter Justin Sanders, 31, were parked in a pickup off the roadway when the driver of a pickup crossed the center of the road on Business 60 south of Highway 60 in Mansfield.
The crash happened around 12:45 a.m.
Sanders was a passenger in the truck and died at the scene.
Bryson was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Sanders, who also worked as a Wright County EMT, was participating in a ride-a-long when the crash happened.
The 21-year-old driver of the other pickup had minor injuries.
Charges are pending for driving while intoxicated-death of another person, first-degree assault, careless and imprudent driving, and not wearing a seat belt.
