(KTTS News) — The Radio Television Digital News Association has announced that KTTS News, part of              SummitMedia-Springfield, has won a 2023 RTDNA Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast in Small Market Radio.

The award was for KTTS News Director Jason Rima’s noon newscast on October 6, 2022.

It included sound from a deadly officer-involved shooting in Springfield.

The winning entry is now under consideration for a National Murrow Award.

“I’m honored to win a Regional Murrow Award for best newscast,” said KTTS News Director Jason Rima. “KTTS competes against much bigger newsrooms. We’re judged by our fellow journalists, so it means a lot to win this award.”

Rima won a 2022 Regional Murrow Award for Breaking News.

KTTS News competes in the Region 5 small market radio category against stations in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska.

KTTS News journalists have won two National Edward R. Murrow awards over the years, along with several Regional Murrow Awards.

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.

Of the awards given to journalists, the Murrow Awards are among the most respected journalism awards in the world.
