Area schools around Springfield saw fewer students Friday as it coincided with a day selected by viral videos to promote school violence.
Various TikTok vidoes promoting threats and encouraged acts of violence at school. Authorities said they did not believe the threats were credible, but several schools saw an increase in security patrols.
In a statement, Nixa Public Schools Coordinator Zac Rantz says he anticipates that threats of this nature will become more common as social media grows.
